Invisible voxels

I often want to build grids, decking, or other things which have small gaps between voxels, but doing so makes them uneven to walk across when static, and allows falling through on moving constructs.

I understand that implementing translucent voxels has technical challenges. Instead, I'd like a honeycomb material for literally invisible voxels, which have normal collision rules but just don't render. This would allow filling in those gaps for smooth, safe surfaces.

This shouldn't introduce any new hazards or exploits, since null-point or single-pixel voxels can already be used as collision traps.
