Make docking more explicit through the construct menu, instead of a hit and miss (mostly miss) operation using the move tool.
Under consideration

GonzoTheMuppetOne of the things I would like to develop within the game is a multi-stage rocket and that only way to do that is to have multiple constructs with pilots for each stage. I believe I could pull it off by using a S, M, and L cores, but I don't think they will glue back together very well!

ShealladhIf they added a Dock element, like a gate or door, which has "connectors", you could then add the element on your ship/construct to have a hard point connector for X core. ie. you place down an Xs Pad for a small ship on the back of your freighter. Or an S landing Pad for Resupply Pad for landing ships.
For L sized, you even add another dockable type, "tow" which would then tow another ship of lesser size. This would also allow for L Carrier ships with multiple docks inside/on top. -

ShealladhHowever, these should also be limited by your Talents/ORG talents on how many can be placed down

StephanatorI'd personally prefer a "docking latch" element that explicitly binds to another docking latch of the same size on a different construct. Latches must be at or smaller than the core its attached to, XS can only have XS latches, S can have S and XS, etc. This would also do away with the default "parenting" except by landing gear, perhaps with a magnetic lock? Would allow explicit hard docking at fixed locations, or magnetic, carrier-style docking, which may be hit or miss.

JustKushPerhaps a Docking Element for xs s and m ships, cause i can barely dock a ship as the voxels nore elements dont want to interfere

ShazbotThis would come in handy for my idea of making parts of my building Dynamic. Such as having a ship or multiple ships as part of my building design. Problem is once they take off it would be very difficult, if at all possible, to get the dynamic constructs back to the exact location where they started. Kind of like docking the saucer section is Star Trek.

FollyJust stick a little light on the landing gear. When not docked, light is red. When docked, light is green.
And yeah, make the things actually dock consistently when landed or maneuvered onto another construct. -

Justin MillerShealladh/Stephanator you should make your idea into a suggestion so it can get upvoted as its far more explicit and probably simple to add into the game. 'Docking Collars' or 'Docking Latches' would make a big difference.
Latches could follow the usual sizes of things in the game and interact with similarly sized latches. The Docking Collar probably would work better as a 1 size thing to attach two door hatches. It wouldn't strictly be necessary if interlocking latches exist, but it might be nice to encourage the docking hatch was always uniform. It would be pretty cool to just link to a latch and when it is within range of another same sized latch have them connect using button, lua, or even detector tricks. The only caveat is you need to make it so both latches require activation to link to allow either side to detach, that or allow one to trigger the other. -

FemA docking element like landing gears have the "lock" ability like in space engineers
