Is this the mining scanner? It works fine. Don't fix what ain't broke.
The radial scanner needs fixed but I don't think it's a priority. Right now the only time it says "ore nearby" is when you are within about 1 meter of the ore which is completely useless. Also the delay makes it easier most of the time to just rely on the distance detector and axis mining.
There times when it is quite inaqurate.You may manually scan an area, move 20 meters, manually scan there and it says it moved, you then move back to the original point and manually scan there, but it still has the same results of the 20 meters. There clearly isn't any logic behind this, this is practically a bug and quite frankly annoying. So yeah, there should be improvements.

I thinking the mining scanning could be improved a LOT. Come on, with the level of technology to make all this happen? There should be a scanner that pinpoints the location and identifies the deposit, or at least narrows it down. The challenge of mining should be in finding a likely location for a given ore or mineral, and maybe going deep enough. I don't like random placement of things and not knowing what I'm pinging and nothing about its location besides current distance.

For the most part, I agree with Daphne. The mechanics have shown themselves well. But! Please make a good 3D model of the scanner (orange with antennas, high details and an LCD screen on top). And then in the inventory the character has the same pistol (for all tools), it's very boring. The ability to choose - how the tool displays information, through its own screen in the 3D model, or through the HUD helmet. And the beam function can be added using an insert (micro-module).
Radial scanner just needs a wider base cone and longer base range. Like 25% bigger base, and then double the upgrades from talents.
I would like to see a SKILL in this, where you could eventually get depth and maybe directions of materials.
This does need improvement, especially for deaf players. There needs to be an immediate visual reaction, either in addition to or in replacement of the delayed reaction, when an ore deposit is detected. It could even be just a brief graphic that quickly circles the outer edge of the scanner display where, when holding the scanner on the detected deposit, the verticle display of ore type color then appears.
